TNC Kazchrome JSC (ERG) is the world's largest ferrochrome producer. In the process of smelting commercial high-carbon ferrochrome in ore-thermal electric furnaces "an ore layer" is applied, to obtain which 10-80 mm lump ore is used. Due to the use of "the ore layer", the metal is refined from silicon and carbon, which makes it possible to obtain commercial ferrochrome. The optimum proportion of lump ore in the ore burden is 30-40%. In order to reduce the risks of the availability of natural lump ore, a search is underway for an economically feasible technology for the production of briquettes (40-80 mm) from chrome fines similar in characteristics to natural lump ore.
